Visit Geevor
Tin Mine
 |
Cornish
mining and Cornish miners are world famous.
Come to Geevor to see how the process of extracting and processing tin actually
took place. The miners searched for tin deep in the ground and far below the
sea. Nowadays you can walk through narrow 18th century tunnels with a guide who
vividly brings to life the conditions of those times. |
The
museum tells the story of mining in Cornwall and the people
who lived here. In our mineral gallery you can see some of
the spectacular and unusual minerals which are found underground
in Cornwall.
Above
ground you can visit surface buildings such as the Miners’ Dry,
left almost exactly as it was on that day in 1990 when
the last working miner
left the site. You can walk through the Mill and learn
about the processes used to obtain tin concentrate from
the ore brought up from the tunnels below.
Dogs are welcome all over the site with the exception of
the Underground Tour.
Enjoy a home cooked meal in the café with views
over the Atlantic; visit the shop
for a tempting range of books, minerals, jewellery and
crafts. |
